Evan H. Karas, MD, FAAOS
Co-Chief of Orthopedic Surgery, Orthopedic and Spine Institute

Dr. Evan KarasDr. Evan H. Karas is a member of the Mount Kisco Medical Group in Mount Kisco. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and finished his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he is currently assistant clinical professor of orthopedic surgery. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine and knee and shoulder surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked extensively with collegiate and professional athletes.

Dr. Karas is an active member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and holds an academic appointment as affiliate staff of orthopedic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has published articles in several orthopedic journals, and has presented and served as faculty at orthopedic surgery conferences nationwide. Dr. Karas is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in the New York Metro Area annually since 2006.


Victor Khabie, MD, FAAOS, FACS

Dr. Victor Khabie

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Khabie is a diplomat of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and earned a subspecialty certificate in orthopedic sports medicine.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons and specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee in athletes.

John Abrahams, MD, FAANS
Chief of Neurosurgery, Co-Director of Spine Surgery, Orthopedic and Spine Institute

Dr. John AbrahamsDr. John Abrahams is a member of Brain and Spine Surgeons of New York, Co-Director of Spine Surgery at The Orthopedic and Spine Institute, and Chief of Neurosurgery at Northern Westchester Hospital.  He graduated from Le Moyne College with a degree in Physics and Chemistry and completed a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute.  Dr. Abrahams received his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his surgical internship at New York University Medical Center.  He completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and finished a spine fellowship and a research fellowship at the Institute for Medicine and Engineering at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Abrahams’ practice focuses significantly on complex spine and brain disorders.  He is the author of numerous patents, has authored over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, and given lectures at many national and local meetings.  Dr. Abrahams has founded two biomedical device companies to develop new treatments for specific aspects of both brain and spine surgery.  In 2009, he founded the Westchester Neuroscience Research Foundation in an effort to improve awareness to spinal cord and brain injury, malignant brain tumors, and neuromodulation.   


Eric L. Grossman, MD, FAAOS
Co-Director, Joint Replacement Surgery, Orthopedic and Spine Institute

Dr. Eric Grossman

Dr. Grossman is a fellowship trained, board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in all facets of hip and knee joint replacement surgery including primary and revision total joint replacement, with a focus on the Anterior Approach to Total Hip Replacement.

Ezriel (Ed) Kornel, MD, FACS
Director at Large, Orthopedic and Spine Institute

Dr. Ed KornelDr. Ed Kornel is a member of Brain and Spine Surgeons of New York and a Director of The Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital.  He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and received his medical degree from Rush Medical College, Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital.  Dr. Kornel completed his neurosurgical residency at the George Washington University Medical Center, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and an assistant clinical professor of neurosurgery at Cornell University.  He has received additional training in Microneurosurgery and is certified in the use of the Gamma Knife, a stereotactic radio-surgical device used for the treatment of brain tumors and trigeminal neuralgia.

Dr. Kornel has expertise in minimally invasive surgical treatment of brain tumors, as well as minimally invasive endoscopic surgery of the spine.  He is one of the first neurosurgeons in New York to replace damaged cervical discs with artificial discs and one of the first spine surgeons in the tri-state area to perform percutaneous lumbar fusions.  Dr. Kornel was involved in the early development of surgical instruments used in endoscopic and minimally-invasive spine surgery and has taught these techniques to other spine surgeons.  A patent is pending on instruments Dr. Kornel invented for percutaneous spine fusion surgery.  Additionally, Dr. Kornel has authored numerous scientific articles relating to neurosurgery and has authored a chapter in an online textbook regarding management of cervical spine trauma. 


Marshal D. Peris, MD FAAOS
Co-Director, Spine Surgery, Orthopedic and Spine Institute

Dr. Marshal PerisDr. Marshal Peris is a member of the Mount Kisco Medical Group, Co-Director of Spine Surgery at The Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital and President of the Medical Staff at Northern Westchester Hospital.  He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  Dr. Peris completed his internship, orthopedic surgery residency, and a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Peris is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.  Dr. Peris has authored numerous scientific articles relating to orthopedic spine surgery in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, and continues to lecture at various national and local meetings.


Stuart T. Styles, MD, FAAOS
Co-Director, Joint Replacement Surgery, Orthopedic and Spine Institute

Dr. Stuart StylesDr. Stuart Styles is a member of the Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Group and Co-Director of Joint Replacement Surgery at The Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital.  He received his undergraduate degree from Hofstra University and his medical degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine.  Dr. Styles completed his residency and was Chief Resident of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Maimonides Medical Center where he was also an Orthopaedic Research Fellow.  Dr Styles specializes in joint replacement surgery and sports medicine and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at New York University School of Medicine/Hospital for Joint Disease.

Dr. Styles is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.  He is a co-author of several articles and textbooks involving orthopaedic subjects and is the orthopedic team physician for several area schools.


Kurt Voellmicke MD, FAAOS
Director, Foot and Ankle Surgery, Orthopedic and Spine Institute

Dr. Kurt VoellmickeDr. Kurt Voellmicke is a member of the Mount Kisco Medical Group and is Director of Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital.  He received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and finished his residency in orthopedic surgery and his fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at The Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Voellmicke is Board Certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an active member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society.  He is currently a clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at Weil Cornell Medical College and teaches residents and fellows at The Hospital for Special Surgery.  

 


David J. Yasgur, MD, FAAOS
Director, Quality and Outcomes, Orthopedic and Spine Institute

Dr. David YasgurDr. David Yasgur is a member of the Mount Kisco Medical Group and is Director of Quality and Outcomes at The Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital.  He earned his BS and Masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College.  Dr. Yasgur finished his residency at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and completed his fellowship training for knee reconstruction and sports medicine at the Insall-Scott-Kelly Institute of Beth Israel Medical Center-North.  Prior to completing his medical training, Dr. Yasgur worked as an Orthopaedic Engineer at the Hospital for Special Surgery where he designed and developed artificial joints for knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, and wrist replacement surgery.

Dr. Yasgur is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.  Dr. Yasgur was named to Castle-Connolly’s New York Metro Top Doctors in 2011 and 2012 and named to Becker's Orthopedic & Spine Review Top U.S. Knee Surgeons in 2009 through 2011.  Westchester Magazine named Dr. Yasgur a Top Doctor in 2010 and again in 2011 and Westchester Wag Magazine has named him a Most Distinguished Doctor from 2007 through 2011.
